Aysanabee is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter currently based in Toronto. He is Oji-Cree, Sucker Clan of the Sandy Lake First Nation, a remote fly-in community in Northwestern Ontario. In March 2024, Aysanabee made history as the first Indigenous artist to win the JUNO Award for Alternative Album of the Year and the coveted Songwriter of the Year for his most recent album Here and Now.

Chen’s innovative approaches help streamline respiratory care in the emergency department and ensures families receive compassionate, child-centred care. He trains parents to manage their child’s cardiac and respiratory emergencies at home and has educated approximately 400 parents and clinicians as an instructor with the SickKids Learning Institute. Chen is a volunteer high school student mentor and a clinical researcher quantifying the life-saving impact of respiratory therapists in Ontario.

She was also nominated for the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards’ Fashion Design Student Award in 2023. Chow now has her own brand and collaborates with three fashion graduates under the label MACEL. They presented their first collection at Fashion Art Toronto during Fashion Week in 2023.

Under her leadership, the effort evolved into a non-profit organization, distributing 5,000 quilts, employing Indigenous staff and engaging global volunteers. Genier’s dedication to justice and reconciliation shines through, raising awareness of truths and fostering Indigenous healing. Her story exemplifies the power of driving meaningful change.

As president of the Canadian Museum Association, George advances the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action #67, urging museums to engage in reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. In 2021, she led a national review of museum policies in relation to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which involved Indigenous communities and museum professionals, and culminated in recommendations to change sector standards and develop repatriation laws.

Gonzalez says his colourful, whimsical script-style is a combination of typography, calligraphy, graffiti and inspiration from the street. He has worked with some of the world’s leading brands, including Apple, Google, Nike and Mercedes Benz. Gonzalez credits his college with nurturing his love for making art with his hands.

His fiery brand Mad Mexican includes a restaurant celebrating its tenth anniversary and a packaged food business that distributes to 300 retail outlets across Ontario.

Chaouki Hamka has been the local spokesperson for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)  Windsor-Essex for 20 years. He works full-time as a corrections officer at the Southwest Detention Centre and serves on MADD's national board. Hamka began his involvement with MADD during college, leading him to a two-decade commitment to raising awareness about impaired driving. He visits schools and community groups, speaking about MADD's campaigns, and applies his communication skills and knowledge of behavioural and social sciences in his full-time role as a correctional officer at the detention centre.

John-Philippe Smith is an esteemed stone carver known for his significant contributions as the Dominion Sculptor of Canada. He has worked extensively in the parliamentary precinct, creating sculpted elements from various materials such as wood, plaster and stone. His expertise has now preserved and enhanced the historical and aesthetic value of Canada’s parliamentary buildings. Smith’s craftsmanship is evident there in pieces like the grotesque for the West Block and the Senate emblem in Centre Block.

With help from family, friends and mentors, Sojo has changed her life and promoted representation and acceptance for the ostomy community.

A paramedic, tactical medic and CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives) specialist, Steve Urszenyi spent 40 years on the frontlines of emergency response, earning the Governor General of Canada EMS Exemplary Service medal and uniform bar for 30 years of service. He was commander of the Ontario emergency medical assistance team and received the Ontario Public Service Amethyst Award for outstanding achievement for medical operations leadership at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games. Urszenyi’s 2023 debut novel Perfect Shot was a finalist for three literary awards.

Retiring from entrepreneurship, he became a full-time advocate, serving as chair and then interim CEO of Abilities Centre Whitby. Wafer was a member of the federal panel on Labour Market Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities and the OMEDEI Partnership Council. He is chair of Canadian Hearing Services, co-founder of Canadian Business SenseAbility and a member of the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame. In 2015, Wafer helped end “sheltered workshops” in Ontario, where people with intellectual disabilities were employed separately under poor conditions and paid pennies a day.
